After months of dedicated effort, including countless long nights, our hard work paid off. This April, we underwent a comprehensive audit by UTAC, a renowned auditing company in the automotive industry. Just a few weeks ago, we received the fantastic news: we have officially obtained the ISO 21434 certification.

This certification is a significant milestone, but our commitment to excellence and regulatory compliance doesn’t end here. Starting in September, our teams will begin preparing for the ISO 24089 certification, which addresses the R156 regulation. This upcoming certification focuses on cybersecurity and software updates in the automotive sector. We aim to undergo the audit for ISO 24089 in 2025.

For now, achieving the ISO 21434 certification marks a pivotal step in our mission to prioritise cybersecurity. This certification, valid for three years, not only validates our current efforts but also motivates us to stay ahead of industry standards, ensuring that our products remain at the top. We are immensely proud of this accomplishment and look forward to continually providing the best in automotive cybersecurity.

Since the company’s creation, our philosophy has been to provide our customers with high quality, technologically advanced products. As such, we have been committed to developing components that comply with standards, not only in terms of laws and regulations in the automotive industry, but also with respect to the environment. Sustainability was, and remains, a top priority for us.

As you may already know, LDL Technology celebrated its 18^th anniversary in 2022, along with some emancipatory ideas that began to emerge. We knew it was time for a change and we had developed a new concept for our image and of what it stands for… it was the perfect opportunity to enter “adulthood” the right way.

After much thought and consideration, we finally decided on the name “LID”, because we could attribute several meanings to it, all of them equally important.

• In French, it can be pronounced as “L’IDée” (the idea), as we have plenty of those here through world-premiere innovations.
• In English, its pronunciation echoes “LEAD”, which in fact represents the rank in which our company has been able to position itself, in several fields, related to wireless technologies for TPMS and Telematics solutions.
• Furthermore, given the strong environmental constraints and the strong influence of our products on CO₂ emissions reduction (TPMS), the meaning of LID, “Low Impact Development,” seemed to us an obvious choice regarding the product portfolio, designed and developed in this mindset.

After deciding on LID, we also opted to use the word “Technology” in its plural form, to show our willingness and commitment to pursue innovation in diverse areas.

Following this entire rebranding process, we were able to reaffirm and reinforce our beliefs and values, and thus LID Technologies was finally born! Our image has been transformed into a more dynamic and modern version of itself, with more intricate details, which finally represents this new era for our company and for all those who have contributed to building our LID family.

What will LID do in the future?

We will continue, as we have done for the past 18 years, to develop, industrialise, and commercialise smart, wireless embedded electronic systems. In addition, we are working on more innovative and secure products that will reflect all the above.

LID Technologies stands for innovative know-how in TPMS, wireless electronics systems and pure automotive quality culture. In addition, our solutions also respond to worldwide and regional safety regulations. That’s right! In the late 2000’s, TPMS was legally required in certain categories of vehicles in different countries around the world; the European region became part of the agreement in the early 2010’s. However, new updates of the UN R141 regulation has widen its scope, making this regulation applicable for larger types of vehicle categories, such as trucks, buses and trailers.

This new amendment of the UN Framework not only expects already manufactured vehicles to add the TPM System, but hopes that manufacturing companies foresee including this system within their vehicles before they are put in the market. The new regulation, which was implemented in its first phase on July 2022, is expected to be fully implemented in the recently added category of vehicles by July 2024. This proves the effort of institutions, governments, and companies towards safer and less polluting solutions in the automotive industry.

Our Tire Pressure Monitoring System only Solution (TPMS)

This system warns against sudden loss of pressure, protecting the driver from any breakdown or even accidents due to tire failure, such as the one in the video below, which could cause big infrastructure and human damages. The TPMS will allow for inflation and temperature monitoring in an easy and efficient manner. It also alerts you is the pressure reaches dangerously low levels. The importance of this feature lies on the safety it provides to drivers and passengers and it is up to date with current R141 regulations.

Our Telematics Control Unit (TCU)

This system allows for the customer to keep better control of this fleet, as enabling managers to control the standard Telematics parameters (e.g., GPS position, speed, breakdowns, etc.) while controlling the pressure of the tires in real time. This system features a hardware box, mounted in the cabin, that functions as a receiver for all wireless sensors. The Telematics unit provides all the tools for efficient and safe monitoring, and is a cost-efficient solution that makes managers’ lives much easier!

Our new innovative product has been designed by integrating three main functions:

1. The ESCL: Mechatronic system as a regulatory theft deterrent that locks the steering column when the motorcycle is stationary.
2. The Hands-Free Start / Engine Immobilisation: Secure, encrypted, two-ways wireless communication system that allows the rider to start the engine without physically handling the key, by authenticating it. This particular system also measures the distance between the key and the motorcycle. The key must be within a close range (<1.5m) to unlock the system, thus protecting the motorcycle against theft.
3. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS): Wireless sensors measure the pressure and the temperature of each tire and transfer the information wirelessly to the receiver box (ESCL). This information is displayed on the original instrumental panel, through CAN bus.

These functions were previously managed by several ECUs. However, for the first time in the evolution of an ESCL system, LDL Technology’s teams have created a multi-functional system, which integrates all the above functions in one single ECU. In order to continue improving in our processes and products, our teams have also focused on an efficient design and materials, allowing them to reduce by half the original weight of existing ESCL products in the current market.

The new requirement for the quality and safety of our products constitutes a non-negligible business advantage for OEMs. Acquiring this standard of Q&S on our ESCL -which is required in the automotive sector and will be applied to all markets in the future-medium term-, will allow LDL Technology to demonstrate the reliability of its products in other areas like TPMS.

Advancements and launching of our ESCL

Within the project organisation and the quality process, the application and development of this new system requires more time than initially expected. Nevertheless, in only six months our teams have been able to develop a demo case which includes the ESCL ECU, a handlebar, an HMI interface on Android, and two TPMS sensors. This demo case replicates all ESCL functions.

LDL’s goal is to be ready for launching this new innovative product during the 1^st Quarter of 2024. The progress and excellent execution of the ESCL project has so far demonstrated our commitment and dedication to proactively develop secure products at a high-quality standard.

So, how is Technology changing almost every aspect of how fleets are managed?

1 – HOW DOES IT WORK?

The telematics Box collects vehicle and GPS information such as:

• Tracking
• Driver identification / Mileage / Fuel consumption
• Reefer Temperature (cold chain)
